Account warm up is the practice of building normal activity history on a new or dormant social account before using it for outreach, so that its first outbound actions do not look like the first actions of a bot.
Platform enforcement is mostly pattern matching, and the easiest pattern to match is an account with no history doing outbound volume on day one. Warm up is not a trick to get around that. It is the unremarkable process of being a normal account for a few weeks, and there is no version of it that takes two days.
What the platform can see is history and rate
Age, follower and connection counts, the ratio of outbound to inbound activity, and how evenly spaced the actions are. A brand new account replying twenty times an hour matches every automated account ever built, regardless of how good the replies are. The content is not what triggers enforcement first.
Inbound signals matter more than outbound volume
Followers who followed you, replies to your posts, profile completeness. These are hard to fake and they are what separates a young account from a disposable one. Time spent making the account worth following is worth more than time spent slowly raising a send limit.
Ramp, do not step
Going from zero to your intended daily volume in one move is the pattern to avoid even after the account is old enough. A ramp over several weeks, ending at your normal number, is unremarkable, and unremarkable is the entire objective.
A dormant account is closer to a new account than an old one
An account that has posted nothing for two years and suddenly starts outbound at volume is a familiar pattern to a platform, because it is what a bought account looks like. Treat a revived account as though it were new.
How to do it
Complete the profile first
Photo, banner, bio, a link, and a location if relevant. An incomplete profile is a cheap signal and there is no reason to give it away.
Read and react for a week before writing
Follow relevant accounts and like things. Consumption before production is what a real account does, and it is the least costly week of the whole process.
Post before you reply outbound
A handful of posts gives anyone who clicks through a reason to follow, and gives the account inbound signal it otherwise has none of.
Start outbound at a fraction of target
A tenth of your intended daily volume in the first week, rising over about a month. The exact numbers matter less than the fact that the curve exists.
Watch the account, not the calendar
If follower count drops, replies stop landing, or reach falls away, pause rather than push through. The signal that something is wrong arrives before the enforcement does.
Common mistakes
- Outbound on day one, which is the single clearest automated account pattern there is.
- Perfectly even spacing between actions, which is more suspicious than volume.
- Treating a revived dormant account as an established one.
- Buying followers, which trades a slow honest signal for a fast fake one that is itself detectable.
How Quillen handles account warm up
Quillen enforces a warm up gate as the first check in the posting path: cold replies from a newly connected account are blocked until it has ten followers, ten connections and seven days of history, and the database default is blocking rather than open. That gate is binary. What eases an account in afterwards is a separate ramp of a tenth of cap in week one, then twenty five, fifty and seventy five percent, reaching full at four weeks, measured from warm up release. The ramp applies to accounts connected from twelve August 2026 and not retroactively to accounts connected before that. - Weeks. A week or two of normal reading and posting before any outbound, then a ramp of about a month to full volume. Anything that promises days is describing a risk rather than a process.
- Does warm up guarantee my account will not be restricted?
- No, and nothing does. Platforms enforce against patterns and no vendor controls their enforcement. Warm up removes the most obvious pattern; it does not buy immunity from the others.
- Do I need to warm up an account I have had for years?
- If it has been active, no. If it has been dormant for a long time and you are about to start outbound at volume, treat it as new, because that is what the sudden change looks like from outside.
