How it decides where to cut
Paragraph, then sentence, then word, and the numbering paid for before any of it.
Paragraph first
A blank line is the strongest signal you gave about where a thought ends, so it is the first place the splitter cuts. Paragraphs that fit together in one post keep their blank line between them.
Then sentence
Inside a paragraph it packs whole sentences, greedily, until the next one will not fit. No post ever ends halfway through a sentence while a sentence break was still available.
Word only as a fallback
A single sentence longer than one post has to break somewhere. When that happens the post is marked, so you can go and add a break yourself rather than discovering it after you posted.
Numbering costs characters
The " 4/12" suffix is subtracted from the limit before packing, not appended after. Most splitters get this wrong and hand you a post that is six characters over.
Common questions
- Where does it break my text?
- At the strongest boundary that fits: paragraph, then sentence, then word. It only breaks mid-word for a single token longer than an entire post, such as a pasted URL with no spaces in it, and it tells you when it had to.
- Does the numbering push posts over the limit?
- No. The suffix width is reserved before the text is packed, and the reservation is recomputed if the thread grows past nine or ninety-nine posts. Every post it returns fits the limit with its number attached.
- Which character limits does it support?
- Presets for X post (280), Threads post (500), LinkedIn post (3000), X Premium post (25000). These are the platforms' own limits, not anything Quillen enforces.
- Is my draft uploaded anywhere?
- No. The splitter is a pure function running in your browser. There is no API route and no server action behind this page, so there is nothing to store or log.
- Can Quillen post the thread for me?
